In Chinese folklore, Osmanthus is deeply intertwined with the moon. Wu Gang, a woodcutter was tasked by the moon goddess to cut down a giant Osmanthus tree. Despite endlessly chopping it down, the tree always regrew, symbolising the challenges of achieving immortality or enlightenment through consistent effort.The association with the moon is evident in its blooming period which coincides with the full moon.
